American Pie (12)

Great film starring some young cheesy Americans doing what they do best, namely masturbating into pies, attempting to have relationships and generally grossing out their audience. There are some great moments, however this will never reach cult status in the way Porky's did. Definitely worth seeing however! The acting is extremely good, and you sadly do start to fall for the 'inept at love' characters. A top Friday night having a laugh and a couple of beers film. (PB)

Blade (18)

Wesley Snipes plays Buffy the Vampire Slayer. From a male bear point of view he's no where near as attractive, but, if you like gore than you'll love the opening sequence. Not a terrible film, the plot is a little 'bitty' and whilst there are the usual action/horror film stunts it never quite takes your breath away. As the end nears, you begin to look at your watch, and all in all the film loses the captivity of its audience. Some great effects, and not a terrible story line (I do prefer week in and week out Buffy though) but it doesn't quite hit the mark. Sorry Wesley! (PB)

Go (18)

What a film. More twists than a barley stick, this is a well produced, superbly acted film. You're never too sure what will happen next, as we follow the exploits of a few remotely linked people as they ready themselves for the Christmas festivities. The story never fails to impress, and the film which has a similar but more cohesive structure than Jackie Brown out Quentin's, Quentin Tarantino. The acting is quite delicious, and features recognisable actors such as Bailey from Party of Five. They manage to do as well if not better than there vastly wealthier stable-mates. This bear loves this film, and recommends you dash out and rent it on video yesterday. (PB)

Mario Golf (N64)

Not being a big fan of golf, I was unsure whether this would be a game for me. My knowledge of golfing terms and how to play was extremely limited, what was all this about birdies, eagles and albatross's? The instruction booklet provided just the thing, basic, easy to understand instructions and the controls were easy to get the hang of too. All your favourite characters are there, Mario, Yoshi, Donkey Kong et al for you to play as, and each differs in their skill and accuracy. With a wide variety of games to play, there is plenty for everyone. The more you play, the more experience points you can collect which adds up to new courses to be won! So whether you want to be alone, in a crowd of friends, in a tournament, or simply shoot through gold rings in the sky, playing Mario Golf is a good way to unwind and have a laugh, (espicially at your opponent!). Please welcome Golden Haired Bear - with her first review!

Super Puzzle Fighter (Playstation)

Mmmmm, nice. Like Street Fighter? Like addictive puzzle games that make your fingers sore, and your eyes bleed, whilst your arse turns to stone because you've not moved for hours. You will love this. The finest puzzler since Tetris and bust-a-move, you have to drop gems onto matching colours to remove bricks. I could explain further, but it sounds complicated, when in fact it really is quite simple. Addictive is not the word. What makes the game is the fact you can play as baby Ryu, Ken, or Chun-Li to name but a few. You'll play for hours, and as always if you're with friends the game is even better! You'll be shouting 'shutthatadoor' in hours! Give the game a go and see if you can get away!

The Thomas Crown Affair (15)

Pierce Brosnan and Rene Roseau star in what I believe is a remake of a classic (confirmation would be nice!). Not a bad action thriller for a Saturday night whilst consuming beer, but not a ground breaking movie. So rich its boring Brosnan decides to spice his life up by stealing paintings. The chase ensues when Roseau (working for the insurance company) begins to investigate Thomas Crown. To say more would ruin the film. In some respects, this is how a Bond film should be made, with a bit more story, and a little less action! And that's the problem. Brosnan whilst not keyholed in my eyes as 007, plays a role that is not dissimilar. Due to this comparisons are inevitable. The action is well formulated, and the ideas with regards to various thefts are brilliant, however as the Golden Haired Bear said, it is all a little predictable. That aside, it is very watchable, well produced and directed and interesting. (PB)

Toy Story 2 (U)

Pixar and Disney get together again to produce yet another wonderful instalment in what I can see becoming a whole series of stories (how can you possible pass up on years of merchandising Buzz, Woody and the gang?). But before I become extremely cynical, this is a great film. It's a shame the first five minutes are the best, but the film retains its fresh ideas, and gripping story. As always, this is not as good as the original, but that isn't a surprise. This film is better executed than the original, and there are more genuinely funny moments, and there is no doubt it's a wonderful film for children. The story just so you all know; Woody is toynapped by (boo-hiss) Al the budget toy store owner to complete his collection, Buzz (hurrah) takes the rest of the toys on an adventure to rescue Woody. What more could you want? Barbie? You got it. I just hope that the merchandising won't go to infinity and beyond! (PB)

Weird Science (15)

What a film. This is brilliant. John Hughes at his very very best. Take one teenage fantasy, shake and stir it, add a little bit of the extraordinary, put in all the dreams you had as an adolescent (and adult) and pour. It may be 1980's but it's superb. Kelly Le Brock (what ever happened to her?) stars. She is ultra cool, massively intelligent and servile to the two teen-nerds that created her. The acting is top notch, Anthony Michael Hall (the Breakfast Club) makes his second appearance for Hughes and really is a star. Yet again it has to be asked where is he now? This is a film you have to see. It's is a film you cannot be without because if you're down it can't fail to cheer you up and have you laughing. This is a really special film, and if you haven't seen it you must. (PB)

 Zelda Orcana of Time (N64)

Jeepers, creepers take a look at those graphics. Now that you have done that run around as free as a bear in a full on three-dimensional environment which will take your breath away. You hardly ever feel constrained in this beautiful realised game. It knocks Final Fantasy VII and VIII into a cocked hat, unless you prefer to have half the adventure to be played out by the console. FF VII is a superb game, but this is real cordon bleu stuff. The fact that the main character, Link is fully controllable, and that those controls come to hand instantly and without thought is yet another marvel. This really is dungeons and dragons, crossed with Mario 64. Complaints? Well not many, in fact I can think of only one. The automatic jump takes a short while to get used to, but, you soon realise it's a great idea. The game is vast, the challenges are in-depth yet solvable, the characters you meet throughout you're adventure have substance, be it Princess Zelda (she is lovely) or Gandorf. This is the best game in the world ever. If Miyamoto did not exist, Nintendo would be dying now. Luckily for them he's still around, and producing finer software by the day. Go out and buy this now - don't even switch your computer off!
